Mississippi Notary Requirements and Information

Mississippi Notary Commission Qualifications
Notary applicants must:
• be at least 18 years old;
• be able to read and write English;
• be a resident of the state of Mississippi and resided in the county of residence for at least 30 days from the date applying;
• be a citizen or legal resident of the United States;
• not have been convicted of a felony (unless pardoned), not be incarcerated, on probation or parole.

Notary Bond Requirement
$5,000 Bond Required (4-year term)

Notary Recordbook (Journal) Requirement
Recordbook (journal) required. Must be a chronological, permanently bound book with numbered pages. Only one active recordbook at a time.

Notary Seal Requirement
Ink stamp required, paper notarial acts. Notary seal image must be sharp, legible, permanent and photographically reproducible. Circular shape specified. Embossing seal may be used ONLY in conjunction with the official ink stamp, and only if embossing seal imprint is NOT inked.

Authorized Duties
• Oaths/affirmations;
• acknowledgments and proofs;
• execute jurats;
• witness signatures.
