Colorado Notary Public Commission Requirements and Information

Notary Commission Qualifications
Applicants must:
• be at least 18 years old;
• be a resident of the state of Colorado;
• be able to read and write the English language;
• not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving dishonesty within 5 years of the date applying;
• never have been convicted of a felony; and
• never have had a notary commission revoked.

→New applicants or renewing applicants (commission expired for more than 30 days) must take and complete a notary training course and successfully pass the State of Colorado online Notary Exam before applying for a Colorado Notary License.

→The seal image must be rectangular, with only an outline and the following information: printed legal name of the notary; notary’s identification number, commission expiration date, the words “State of Colorado” and “Notary Public.” Continued use, until commission renewal, of official seals (including embossers) that were obtained before Aug. 8, 2012 is authorized, but otherwise possession of a notary seal embosser is prohibited.

• take depositions and affidavits; and
• note protests.
