Colorado Notary Requirements and Information

Colorado Notary Commission Qualifications
Notary applicants must:
• be at least 18 years old;
• be a resident of the state of Colorado;
• be a citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States;
• be able to read and write the English language;
• not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving dishonesty within 5 years of the date applying;
• never have been convicted of a felony; and
• never have had a notary commission revoked.

Recordbook Required*, paper and electronic notarial acts
*Format may be paper or electronic. Paper recordbook must be a permanent, bound register (journal, recordbook) with numbered pages. Electronic recordbook must be in a permanent, tamper-evident format complying with any rules of the Secretary of State.

Authorized Duties
• oath/affirmations;
• take acknowledgments;
• copy certifications;
• witness or attest signatures
• note protests, Only notaries who are employed by a financial institution, and who are acting in the course and scope of that employment.
