Idaho Notary Requirements and Information
Idaho Notary Commission Qualifications
Notary applicants must:
be at least 18 years old;
be a citizen or permanent legal resident of the U.S.;
be a resident of the state of Idaho, be employed or place of practice in the state;
be able to read and write;
not be disqualified to be commissioned under Idaho Code §51-123.

Notary Education and/or Exam Requirement
Not required; Secretary of State or an approved entity must offer a (non-mandatory) course to new applicants.
Notary Bond Requirement
$10,000 Bond Required or a functional equivalent in the amount of $10,000. (6-year term).
Notary Recordbook (Journal) Requirement
Not required.
A recording of the audio-video communication session for every remote online notarization performed must be retained. Effective 3-20-20, by administrative rule a Notary may elect to maintain one or more journals (tangible or electronic format) in which all notarial acts for remotely relocated individuals are chronicled.
Notary Seal Requirement
Ink stamp required, paper notarial acts.
Official stamp required/specified, electronic notarial acts. Must provide an image of the Notarys official stamp that meets the (visual) requirements for the ink stamp and is readily visible upon copying.
Authorized Duties
Oaths/affirmations;
verifications on oath or affirmation;
acknowledgments;
certify or attest copies;
witness or attest signatures;
note protests;
A Notary Public may also certify that a tangible copy of an electronic record is an accurate copy of the record.
An Idaho Online Notary may notarize for a remotely located individual by means of communication technology, subject to requirements and limitations in statutes and any administrative rules.
