Rhode Island Notary Public Requirements

Rhode Island Notary Commission Qualifications
Notary applicants must:
• be at least 18 years of age;
• be able to read and write English;
• have sufficient knowledge of the powers and duties of a notary public;
• be a citizen or a permanent legal resident of the United States;
• be a resident or have a place of employment or practice in the state.
Other qualifications:
• an attorney, in good standing who is registered with the Rhode Island Bar; or
• a certified public accountant, in good standing, with a certified license.

Seal impression must be photographically reproducible. A seal impression inker must be used when only using an embossing seal.

• execute jurats;
• witness signatures;
• certify copies;
• execute protests; and
• issue subpoenas to witnesses.
