Commonwealth of Virginia Notary Requirements

Virginia Notary Commission Qualifications
Notary applicants must:
• be at least 18 years old;
• be a legal resident of the United States;
• be able to read and write the English language;
• Be a resident or regularly employed in the Commonwealth;
• not have been convicted of a felony. Anyone convicted of a felony in the Commonwealth or any other state, shall not qualify for a Virginia notary commission unless he/she has had his/her rights restored.

Ink Stamp or Embossing Seal Required, Paper Notarial Acts. Must be photographically reproducible.
*Electronic signature/seal includes image or text with specified information elements that correspond to those in the paper-act seal.

Authorized Duties
• take acknowledgments and proofs;
• administer oaths and affirmations;
• certify copies;
• certify affidavits and depositions; and
• perform verifications of fact.
