What is a Notary Signing Agent?

I've heard the term, Notary Signing Agent. Is that "Just a Notary"?

A “Notary Signing Agent” is a duly commissioned or appointed Notary Public whose services are retained by a party involved in a mortgage loan closing. The Notary Signing Agent's job is to present loan documents for signing by the borrower(s), perform any necessary notarizations, and ensure that the entire document package is promptly sent to its destination for processing. The Notary Signing Agent is a “regular” Notary who has received additional training to familiarize the Notary with loan documents and how to present them for the borrower’s initials and signature.

As ever, in performing these duties the Notary provides essential assurances to the parties relying on the transaction:

These assurances are evidenced by the Notary’s completed notarial certificate, on the face of the document or attached to it. The notarial certificate contains the Notary’s official signature and seal of office (some states do not require use of a seal).

Notary Signing Agents are widely relied upon because their specialized training and willingness to go to the borrower provides the utmost in customer service and convenience. The Notary Signing Agent’s mobility expands a consumer’s ability to obtain the best possible loan from lenders across the U.S. These Notaries serve as a nearly irreplaceable human and professional resource for those who contract their services.
